On March 10, 2005, the Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer awarded the John Dillon Memorial Fellowship to Dr. Changyong Zhou. The John Dillon Memorial Fellowship was established to commemorate the famous Australian agricultural economist John Dillon's great research and his leadership skills concepts, aimed at encouraging young scholars to develop their skills as leaders in research, industrialization, policy making, and the promotion of technology. Dr. Changyong Zhou is the only Chinese who received this award this year.

NOTE: Funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the fellowships were established in recognition of the lifelong contribution to agricultural research by the late Professor John Dillon. Professor Dillon served as the Chair of ACIAR's Board of Management, and as President of the Policy Advisory Council from 1985 until 1994.
