2010 Cross-strait Academic Exchange Conference on Citrus successfully held in Chongqing

From Nov. 1st to Nov. 3rd, 2010 Cross-strait Academic Exchange Conference on Citrus was held in Chongqing. It was organized by Cross-strait Agricultural Exchange Association and Taiwan Corporate Fund for Rural Area Development, and held by Citrus Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Ms. DAI Yan, Director of Department of Exchange, Cross-strait Agricultural Exchange Association, Mr. LING Fuxiong, Acting Executive of Taiwan Corporate Fund for Rural Area Development, Mr. LIU Jifang, Office in Charge of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Ms. REN Airong, Party Secretary of Agricultural Economy and Development Research Institute of CAAS attended the conference, with the presence of over 90 representatives from both sides across the Straits.

During the conference, experts gave speeches and exchanged views on the macro-management of citrus industry in mainland and Taiwan. They also had discussion on varieties, cultivation, plant protection, storage and processing of citrus. After the discussion, experts reached consensus that both sides across the Straits enjoy good foundation for cooperation in extensive areas of citrus technology. They also expressed hopes that the both sides establish cooperative mechanism and exchange platform in diverse forms and various fields. It was believed the cooperation between mainland and Taiwan will facilitate academic exchanges between the both sides and promote development in citrus industry and scientific technology, thus making new contributions to cross-strait scientific and cultural communication.

After the conference, experts from Taiwan visited the nursery, standardized orchard and non-concentrated orange juice processing plant of Chongqing Three Gorges Construction Group Ltd., and exchanged information with the farm management team on relevant citriculture technologies.
