CRI’s Delegation Led by Director ZHOU Changyong Attending the 9th International Citrus Nursery Stock

From June 11^th to 25^th, 2011, CRI’s 6-person delegation, including Director ZHOU Changyong, Deputy Director PENG Liangzhi, Deputy Director JIAO Bining, Deputy Director ZHONG Guangyan, Prof. WU Houjiu and Assistant Prof. LU Zhihong, attended the 9th Congress of International Society of Citrus Nurserymen in Tucuman, Argentina, at the invitation of Talina Anderson, Director of the organizing committee of the 9th International Citrus Nursery Stock Congress and Director of National Agricultural Technology Research Institute of Argentina. CRI’s delegation also investigated the citrus production in Argentina and Chile before and after the meeting.

Prof. ZHOU Changyong, Vice President of Southwest University and Director of CRI, delivered a speech with the title of The Current Situation of China’s Virus-free Propagation Programs and the Impact of Huanglongbing in China, while Prof. DENG Xiuxin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Huazhong Agricultural University, gave a speech on New Citrus Varieties Registered during the Past Decade in China. Both of the two speeches attracted extensive attention from the audience to China’s citrus industry.

Thanks to the tours organized by the organizing committee, CRI’s delegation gained a better knowledge of citrus-related researches, production and plant breeding in Argentina and Chile. During their pre-congress tour, CRI’s delegation paid visits to companies specialized in growing, processing and exporting citrus products in Argentina, such as San Miguel, Citrusvil, Citromax and Argenti Lemon. In the post-congress tour, they visited the nurseries and orchards of several citrus companies in Chile, namely PUCV, San Jose Citrus&Ornamenal, Desarrollo Agrario, Lindero, Univiveros, Agricom, and AT.

The 9th Congress of International Society of Citrus Nurserymen was hosted by International Society of Citrus Nurserymen and co-organized by Association of Tucuman Citrus (ATC), National Agricultural Technology Research Institute, and etc. Over 200 people, including experts, government officials, entrepreneurs, scholars and technical administrative personnel, from Argentina, China, America, Spain, France, Australia, South Africa, Egypt, Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Bolivia, Columbia, and Uruguay attended the meeting.
