Party secretary LONG Li meeting with Minister Surmanidze

On Sept. 28^th, 2011, Donari Surmanidze, the Minister of Agriculture of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Georgia, Ruin Diasamiadze, the Director of Agricultural Technology Service Center, and Nargiz Bezjanidze, the assistant to Donari Surmanidze, visited CRI. 

During the meeting, Mr. LONG Li, Party Secretary of CRI, and Minister Surmanidze exchanged information about two nations' citrus industry and had discussions on matters such as the cooperation on citrus science and technology and graduate students exchange programs. Citrus is the second largest crop in Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Georgia with a long cultivation history. The citrus plantation is over 5,300 hectares. Adjara' citrus industry has close relationships with China, as its citrus varieties and planting techniques were introduced from China. Minister Surmanidze expressed willingness to cooperate with CRI mainly on citrus varieties. He also asked for Chinese government's permission to introduce elite citrus varieties from China.

Minister Surmanidze watched the video of CRI’s 50th Anniversary, and visited the museums of citrus varieties and insect pest specimens, the processing pilot workshop, the citrus quality analysis laboratory, the virus-free nursery and the display nursery of citrus varieties.

Mr. XIONG Zhe, from the International Exchange Service Center of Ministry of Agriculture, People’s Republic of China, Mr. ZHOU Wei, from the International Cooperation Office of Chongqing’s Agriculture Committee, Prof. PENG Liangzhi, the Vice Director of CRI, Prof. LI Zhongan, the Director Assistant of CRI, Mr. HUANG Sen, the Director of the Scientific Research and Extension Office of CRI, and Mr. SUN Zhigao, the Vice Director of Fruit Storage and Processing Research Group also attended the meeting.
